Dr. Cantor discussed the topic: “”Understanding ‘Hypersexuality’: Past the Debates to the Clinical Realities.”
Dr. Cantor is Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto and the Head of Research for the Law and Mental Health Program of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of Sexual Abuse: A Journal of Research and Treatment, the official journal of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA). His other research interests include the causes and expression of hypersexuality, paraphilias, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
Dr. Cantor’s research studies have appeared in multiple high-impact journals, including Psychological Bulletin and the Journal of Abnormal Psychology, and he is first author of the “Sexual Disorders” chapter in the Oxford Textbook of Psychopathology. He frequently provides input regarding the management, causes, and treatment of sexual offending, and his comments have appeared on CNN, Newsweek/The Daily Beast, and the National Post. Profiles of Dr. Cantor and his work have appeared in Salon, and the APA Monitor on Psychology.
