An Interview with Dominic Parrott, Ph.D.: Understanding the Role of Alcohol in Aggressive Behavior
Recorded June 5, 2015 Dr. Parrott is Associate Professor, Director of Clinical Training and Chair, Clinical Psychology Program at Georgia State University. His clinical interests involve the assessment and treatment of adults with substance use and anger-related difficulties His NIAAA funded research program aims to reduce interpersonal violence by (1) identifying risk and protective factors for perpetrating aggressive behavior and (2) informing intervention programming. He uses different methodologies (e.g., laboratory, survey) to study different forms of aggression (e.g., physical, sexual) toward various targets (e.g., sexual minorities, women) and under different conditions (e.g., alcohol intoxication, in group settings). Dr. Parrott’s group at GSU has recently completed the largest known laboratory-based project designed to ascertain in whom and in which situations alcohol intoxication causes aggression toward gay men and lesbians.
